If you have not been to the Niagara Icewine Festival, you should make plans to go. It is hard to imagine an outdoor winter event that is better than this. Some of the wineries have been very ambitious and others simply have an indoor event.
Icewine Lounge at Hillebrand Winery
The best outdoor display might go to Hillebrand for effort and is a must visit. Hillebrand Vidal Icewine is also one of the consistent best icewines available. Visit the The Icewine Lounge at Hillebrand Winery 1249 Niagara Stone Road Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON for one of the best of the 2010 Icewine Festival. Hillebrand has been making icewine since 1983.
Wikipedia credits another winery in the area, Inniskillen as a leader in the area to make award winning icewines. Inniskillen should also be on the must visit list for a trip to the 2011 Icewine Festival. The ice icewine bar is wonderful and the star of the show even better. Inniskillen Winery is at 1499 Line 3 off the Niagara Parkway in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The 2010 Gourmet Food & Wine Expo is educating and entertaining consumers
The Gourmet Food & Wine Expo, November 18 – 21, 2010, is hosting some incredible events that will both educate and entertain. From crafting the perfect Caesar to exploring Niagara’s cellars, there’s a lot to learn about at this year’s Expo.
The incredibly successful Tutored Tastings program offers everyone from novice to connoisseur a chance to taste some of the best wines from around the globe. Led by notable sommeliers, prominent media personalities and celebrity guests, these rare hands-on educational and sampling opportunities might be your once-in-a-lifetime chance to savour rare vintages and hidden gems. On Friday night at 7 pm, drink in the hottest Hollywood reds. Canada’s Wine Doctor, Edward Finstein hosts this exciting opportunity to taste a voluptuous Cab, alluring Zin, playful Merlot, sexy Pinot Noir and marvelous Meritage, alongside other stars from Tinseltown. On Saturday at 4:30 pm, find out what’s cool about cool climate wines, as renowned wine writer Tony Aspler guides participants through these complex and elegant wines that truly reflect a “sense of place”. Sunday at 3 pm Vintages Product Consultant Joe Gentile explores the unique region of Burgundy. Join Joe for a tasting of specially selected wines, including premier cru bottles from celebrated villages that illustrate the fundamentals of Burgundy’s wines.
Beyond the wine glass, Mott’s Clamato celebrates over 40 years of Caesars. Len Fragomeni, the Dean of Mott’s Clamato Caesar School, hosts a series of hands-on workshops in creating four variations on Canada’s national cocktail. Perfect the classic, chill out with a cucumber and dill infusion or enjoy a fresh twist with a unique smoked lime and Patron Silver concoction. Find out first-hand why when you see one, you want one!
Another Expo mainstay is the Connoisseur’s Corner stage led by Independent Wine Education Guild experts. These ongoing wine seminars are available on a first-come, first-serve basis beside the LCBO on the show floor. These 45-minute entertaining, yet educational, seminars are sure to impress. Where would we be without cheese? Fear not as Dairy Farmers of Canada specialist Deborah Levy hosts Canadian artisanal cheese tasting seminars expertly paired with wine and beer at Cheese Corner. Learn how to select the perfect cheeses for any occasion and the art of pairing them with wine and beer. The Wines of California pavilion features another notable cheese authority – Kathy Guidi, author of Canadian Cheese: A Pocket Guide.
