Prince William Style Bachelor Party Planning, Who Says “Not Much”

Slalom water skier on lake in southern Ontario

Image via Wikipedia

Royal watchers waiting for titillating tidbits are maybe disappointed. According to reports not much happened.

The party has happened and it was in the UK  and they had fun.

Not much is said to have happened but the prince with a group of 20 or so spent the weekend boating, waterskiing and pub crawling.

Sounds Prince Williamish. I like the waterskiing but wasn’t  it cold?

With royal wedding interest in high gear, here are a few fresh bachelor party planning ideas.

Princess Diana’s Extra Wedding Dress

Princess Diana Spare Wedding Dress

Princess Diana Spare Wedding Dress

Did you know that Princess Diana had an extra wedding dress?  Well neither did she!  This information has just been released – but how thoughtful of the people who made her dress. This stunning backup dress was created just in case her original gown was made public before the big day.

We all know how stressful our upcoming weddings can be – but imagine having to worry about your gown being found out!  I know some people think that the “Royals” are accustomed to this type of attention and let’s face it – hounding by the media.  But really – to have to worry about your dress being seen before you get to wear it.  My heart goes out to Kate.

The Champagne Cocktail a Royal Wedding Event April 2011

Champagne Cocktail

Royal Cocktail

Royal Cocktail

The Champagne Cocktail has been around for a long time. It is one of the most enduring cocktails with good reason. It’s fabulous. What better cocktail for the April Signature Cocktail to commemorate the Royal Wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince Andrew.

4oz. (120 ml) Piper-Heidsieck champagne
3/4 oz. Remy Martn VSOP cognac
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 sugar cube

Put a drop or two of the bitters on the sugar cube, pour in the cognac and then the champagne. Serve with a twist of lime or lemon.

The Champagne Cocktail History

References to this drink are found as early as 1862 in The Bon Vivant’s Companion and Jerry Thomas’s How to Mix Drinks

1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 or 2 dashes bitters
Piece of lemon peel
Champagne

Fill tumbler 1/3 full broken ice. Fill balance with wine. Shake well and serve.

Thomas later published an updated edition in 1887  removing the shaking and crushed ice . The recipe is similar to ours but adds an ice cube and stirs. Serve with a lemon peel.

John Dougherty made the cocktail famous in 1899 when he mixed it to win The New York cocktail competition. John Dougherty called his concoction “The Business Brace”

If you have not been to the Niagara Icewine Festival, you should make plans to go. It is hard to imagine an outdoor winter event that is better than this. Some of the wineries have been very ambitious and others simply have an indoor event.

Icewine Lounge at Hillebrand WineryIcewine Lounge at Hillebrand Winery

The best outdoor display might go to Hillebrand for effort  and is a must visit. Hillebrand Vidal Icewine is also one of the consistent best icewines available.  Visit the The Icewine Lounge at Hillebrand Winery 1249 Niagara Stone Road Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON for one of the best of the 2010 Icewine Festival. Hillebrand has been making icewine since 1983.

Wikipedia credits another winery in the area, Inniskillen as a leader in the area to make award winning icewines. Inniskillen should also be on the must visit list for a trip to the 2011 Icewine Festival.  The ice icewine bar is wonderful and the star of the show even better. Inniskillen Winery is at 1499 Line 3 off the Niagara Parkway in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Sunday at 3 pm Vintages Product Consultant Joe Gentile explores the unique region of Burgundy. Join Joe for a tasting of specially selected wines, including premier cru bottles from celebrated villages that illustrate the fundamentals of Burgundy’s wines.

Beyond the wine glass, Mott’s Clamato celebrates over 40 years of Caesars. Len Fragomeni, the Dean of Mott’s Clamato Caesar School, hosts a series of hands-on workshops in creating four variations on Canada’s national cocktail. Perfect the classic, chill out with a cucumber and dill infusion or enjoy a fresh twist with a unique smoked lime and Patron Silver concoction.
